Personalized testing when clinically appropriate
Testing That Adds Information, Used Thoughtfully.
Specialty testing can provide additional information to help personalize your psychiatric care. These tests are not ordered routinely, but may be helpful when clinically appropriate. Possible benefits, limitations, and costs are reviewed with you before anything is ordered.

When clinically appropriate, Balanced Mind Mental Health may order the GeneSight® Psychotropic test, a cheek-swab test that examines genes involved in how your body processes certain psychiatric medications.
Testing may be considered after medication side effects, poor tolerability, or limited improvement with previous trials. Results may provide information about medication metabolism, dosing considerations, and potential genetically related side-effect risks. They are reviewed alongside your symptoms, medical history, and current medications.
GeneSight cannot predict which medication will work best or diagnose a mental health condition. Testing may be useful in selected situations but is not necessary for everyone.
Specialized Laboratory Testing
Standard labs, including thyroid tests, blood counts, metabolic panels, and selected vitamin levels, may be ordered when clinically indicated to evaluate medical contributors to mood, energy, sleep, or focus.
Selected specialized testing through Vibrant Wellness may also be considered based on your symptoms, health history, and treatment needs.
Specialty test results are interpreted alongside your clinical history and standard testing and are not used alone to diagnose a condition or determine treatment.
How Specialty Testing Works
- 1
Clinical Review
We discuss whether specialized testing may be appropriate for your needs.
- 2
Provider Orders Testing
If appropriate, your provider orders the test and reviews collection, limitations, and expected costs with you.
- 3
Sample Collection
Your provider explains how to complete the test. GeneSight uses a cheek swab; Vibrant Wellness samples vary by panel (blood, urine, saliva, or stool).
- 4
Results & Follow-Up
Your provider reviews the results with you and discusses any clinically appropriate next steps.
Before Any Test Is Ordered
We review why a test is being considered, what the results can and cannot tell us, and the expected cost, including whether the test is likely to be self-pay. Testing is optional. Declining a test does not affect your access to care.
Insurance and Appointments
Specialty testing is considered individually as part of psychiatric care. GeneSight testing may be covered by some insurance plans, depending on eligibility and laboratory billing policies.
Specialized laboratory testing through Vibrant Wellness is generally self-pay. Patients pay Vibrant Wellness directly through the laboratory’s payment process. Patients are informed of expected costs before testing is ordered.
Testing is optional and is not required to receive psychiatric care at Balanced Mind Mental Health.
